1912 By the end of 1912 the talk was of a proper contract between architects and their clients—the beginning of a series of contract forms that form the backbone of the Institute's standard contract documents.
1934 The Institute expressed its appreciation of the decision by the Treasury Department's Procurement Division to require that private architects be employed on all projects costing more than $60,000.
1940 The AIA constructed a new headquarters behind the Octagon. It was seized for official use before the AIA could occupy it. The AIA wasn't able to occupy the building until after World War II.
1942-43 Impressed with the benefits to be gained by public recognition of architectural merit, paralleling the Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, Hollywood's Oscars and that like Albert Kahn left $10,000 as a nest-egg for a fund to provide some recognition in the architectural world—The American Architectural Foundation was incorporated.
1951 The Institute took the lead in forming a Joint Committee on the Design Professions, composed of official representatives from the civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers, planners, landscape architects, and architects.
