Columbus, Indiana: Preserving the Past, Educating the Present, Planning the
Future

Columbus, Indiana, has more buildings per capita designed by AIA gold medalists than any other in the US. AIA Indiana's multi-phased initiative will focus on the development of the public and professional education and awareness component of the Columbus Drawings and Documents Archives (CDDA); institute a biennial symposium that will focus on the Modernist architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning and design (1950-2005), as well as the professionals, clients, and constituents who were responsible for making it an everyday reality in the Hoosier community that has been referred to as “The Athens of The Prairie;” and, explore the possibilities of developing a Columbus Design Center (CDC) of which the archives would become a major component.
